Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer Leaked

A photobucket user uploaded an off camera video of the Jump Festa 2007 trailer. The trailer is all CG, and shows footage of many of the other characters we have previously seen in scans and screen shots. The music is not from the actual trailer as there is most likely a great deal of ambient noise in the background, so it was replaced with another track.

Final Fantasy XIII Does Not Depend on PS3 Sales

As we all know, havoc and dismay and a lot of questions ensued after Square Enix's big surprise at E3, many pinning Square Enix's decision on the lower install base of the PS3 (14 Million) compared to the Xbox 360 (19 Million). However, a glance at last generation sales trends for sequels, this assumption is not accurate.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII still PS3 Exclusive

During an interview with Kitase, and Hashimoto, Kotaku.com has confirmed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be staying PS3 exclusive. The following is the interesting bit of the interview.

Question: Motion controls?
Kitase: "No, we have no plans."
Question: "Will FF Versus 13 be multi plat?"
Hashimoto: No.
Question: FFXIII uses a properitary engine. Correct me if I'm wrong, that's the last time, it will be used.
Hashimoto: "We haven't made any changes about that."

Kotaku was also able to clarify a few more points.

- Crystal Tools is a PC based engine, so the game will be developed on a PC then ported to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

- The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will have the same content, but of course the Xbox 360 will have DVD(s) and the PS3 version will have a Blu-Ray. He wouldn't comment on the number of discs the Xbox 360 version will take up.

- Final Fantasy XIII will first be released in Japan and then development / translation will start on the English version. Then development will start on the Xbox 360 version.

The FXN Final Fantasy XIII Podcast is back again, and once again it usually comes on the first Monday of every month. This month's episode was delayed until today due to work on the FXN Video Feature, and an overall shortage of time in general this past week. For a better understanding of the FXN Podcast, check out the Podcast Page.

Lauren, Jamie, Kyle, and myself are back and hit up E3 and DKS3813 speculation, and other recent FFXIII news, believe it or not! This show didn't get as much special treatment as usual, like the intro, but next episode will be back in full force!

We hope you enjoy, and we'll be working on sharpening our skills for next time (maybe no papers next time). Nonetheless, here it is!

Online Solution for Renting FFXIII?

Forever-Fantasy.net has translated what was discussed at Square Enix's recent stockholders meeting in Japan. Near the end of the meeting there was a short question and answer period, in which Square Enix President Yoichi Wada took part in:

Q: FF13 is on its way, but in the current game market the more you ship the more your titles end up in used game stores, returning no profit to the developer. Given that, would it be possible for you to rent games out similar to movies?

A: Your opinion is very important, thank you very much.

The current generation of games all incorporate some type of network connectivity, which means almost all need online resources. Even titles without online play have online rankings, leaderboards and so on.

In correspondence with the online component, we believe the restrictions of physical media leading to the used game sales problem can be worked out.

Rather than renting out the physical media of titles, we're thinking more along the lines of an online solution. ~Square Enix

What this could mean is anyone's guess.
